Paul Van Reid

My paintings attempt to reflect points of transition and change. Often it is within these transient moments of reflection that we briefly understand who we are. This is what determines my choice of subject matter. From film stills, Dutch Golden era paintings to a magnolia tree on the street where I live, most of my visual references contain a cinematic use of light. Artists whose work I love extend from Luc Tuymans to Rembrandt to Andrei Tarkovsky.
