Paul Van Reid

Paul van Reid is a painter and art and film teacher based in Belfast. His work explores themes of power, desire, belief, mortality and consciousness that are reflected in the fleeting moments of transition and change that give us a brief understanding of who we are.

Van Reid takes influences from a range of sources from film stills and the Dutch Golden Age to day to day influences such as the magnolia tree that blooms outside his house as he is drawn to the cinematic language of light.

Most recently Paul has completed a major body of work ‘The Searches’ at the Sunburst Gallery at Ards Arts Centre, Northern Ireland. This exhibition of miniature oil paintings is inspired by the work of Jakob van Ruisdael, the 16th Century Dutch landscape painter. Despite oil being a traditional medium, Van Reid employs AI technology to ensure that the subject matter and productions of the source image remain radical.

All enquiries should be directed to Paul van Reid for more information on purchases and exhibitions.
